Light rail could return to Newcastle's east end more than 60 years after the city's tram network came to a halt, under a proposal on the table as part of the state government's transport deliberations. Hamilton has emerged as the front-runner for the location of a new transport interchange where heavy rail would end and light rail would begin, with bureaucrats warming to the Woodville Junction area to the west of the existing station
